Tempest

I sensed the wind before I felt it, the incoming gale foreshadowed by the tensed movements of the surrounding fauna. The trees to my side were swaying back and forth in a rhythmic synchronized pattern. A moment passed, then another, each second filled with suspense and fear as to when the storm will hit. The wind grew stronger, the animals had now disappeared, escaped to the safety of their residence in caves and burrows. The trees were wildly splaying in all directions, the movements now incongruous and belligerent. The air pressure dropped, as I turned around to witness the tempest. It was ironically majestic, tearing apart the surface that came before it in a wanton manner, charging forth like a wild beast, no, a choleric monster threatening to bring about commination to any who dared oppose it. Entrancing, the way the winds twisted and spiraled around a central focal point, in swift terpsichorean movements. It seemed to be alight, an inferno that almost glowed in the dim lit atmosphere, lightning within the eye of the storm causing an illusion of conflagration, forming the image of flames entwining with the winds, a concoction of topaz ember coiling, blazing snakes in the raging storm. I was entranced. How could something that can cause so much death and destruction be so alluring...I could not take my eyes off that maelstrom of plasma and wind as it traveled across the land, still inflicting chaos unlike anything I had ever seen, but it was beautiful...so beautiful, the cruel elegance of nature embodied within a single storm.
